As a goon who has never had anything ill to say of BoB or the person who played as smoske, nor had any cheap laughs at any jokes that were made about that individual, it irks me to see folks on these forums denouncing our entire group based on a handful of folks making distasteful comments. GoonSwarm is an alliance about helping new players learn, proudly representing our home (the SA forums), showing bullies that they can't push newbies around forever, and most of all GoonSwarm is about having a lot of fun with two thousand friends from all over the world.
The incident being used as an excuse to attack our alliance, a signature of a member on our internal forums, is being paraded around these forums as an example of such behavior. The reality is that the signature in question was in no way an attack on the person who played smoske, nor is it an attempt to sully the memory of that human being. It was rather an attack on those who would take the memory of that person and use it to their own political gain - in something as trivial as an INTERNET SPACESHIP GAME. I have been playing this game for many weeks in the GoonFleet corporation and never have I witnessed a member disrespect the memory of that individual, despite what I've heard about it occurring a handful of times in the distant past.
Seeing the statements of BoB members and others who villianize our group and vow to make war upon our general population in an attempt to exact punishment on us, I am steeped in disrespect for the individuals who would say such things and take actions such as they claim they intend to do. I have no ill will towards the individual who played this video game under the name smoske, and neither does anyone who plays this same video game under the banner of the GoonSwarm alliance. Attempting to use that person's death for your own purposes is a despicable act, and I gladly fight against any group that takes such actions. I will fight with the Swarm's honor, lose as many ships as I have to, stay up as late as I have to, spend as many ISK as I have to, and dedicate myself to the will of our dear leader and our amazing directors, who will surely lead us to victory against enemies so cowardly as these.
